Export your AncestryDNA raw data

Step-by-step

1. Sign in at ancestry.com/dna.
2. Open the test you want to export → Settings (top right).
3. Scroll to Download your DNA data → Download Raw DNA Data.
4. Confirm your account password.
5. Ancestry emails you a download link — usually within a few minutes, occasionally a couple of hours.
6. Open the email and click the link. The download is a .zip of about 5–7 MB.

What's in the file?

Inside the .zip is one AncestryDNA.txt with header comments and roughly 700,000 SNP rows in rsid · chromosome · position · allele1 · allele2 format. You can upload the .zip directly or extract first — both work.

Heads-up

• Ancestry's chip overlaps but isn't identical to 23andMe — some SNPs we scan won't be present; the report flags any gaps.
• If your account is in the EU, the option lives at Settings > Privacy > Download your DNA data.
• You can also revoke / delete from the same page if you change your mind later.

Privacy reminder

Raw genotype data is the most sensitive file you have. We process it in-memory and delete the upload within 24 hours. No third party ever sees it.
