Export your FTDNA Family Finder raw data

Family Tree DNA's Family Finder autosomal results export as a standard SNP TSV — what Whale DNA needs.

Step-by-step

  1. Sign in at familytreedna.com.
  2. Open your kit dashboard.
  3. Under Autosomal DNA Results, click Family Finder → Download Raw Data.
  4. Confirm the download. The file arrives directly in your browser (no email confirmation).
  5. Save the .csv.gz — usually ~6 MB compressed.

What's in the file?

FTDNA delivers a gzipped CSV containing ~700,000 SNPs in rsid · chromosome · position · result format (similar to MyHeritage). Upload the .csv.gz directly — we decompress server-side.

Heads-up

  • If you bought transfers from another service (Ancestry, 23andMe), the raw data under Family Finder is the transferred file — same export still works.
  • FTDNA may show separate "myOrigins" and "Y-DNA / mtDNA" results — those are different products. We only need Family Finder for the autosomal SNP set.
